Course Summary
This course provides the basic concepts required for Algebra 1. Students will be walked through different math competition problems after mastering the concepts to encourage critical thinking. The lesson plans include fun and interactive games to make the class interesting.
Requirements
Students need to have mastered the four operations and are required to be strong in arithmetic to keep up with the class. They must come in willing to learn and interact with other students and the teacher.
Instructions
- 1. Download Zoom on a personal device situated in a learning environment.
- 2. Click on the view calendar link located on the homepage or in the class dates section of your course. This will take you to a google calendar with the dates and times of all the classes.
- 3. Click on the class that you would like to attend and copy the meeting ID.
- 4. Go to Zoom and enter the meeting ID.
- 5. The class is a total of 1.5 hours. However, there will be a short 5-minutes break after 45 minutes. We will email you a new meeting ID for the second half of the class. Please make sure to rejoin because this half of the class will cover application of the topics that were taught

Multiplication and long division will be reviewed. Order of operations will be taught. Practice word problems and games are included.
Squares, cubes, and larger exponents will be taught in addition to negative exponents. Practice word problems and games are included.
Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with common denominators and uncommon denominators will be taught. Mixed numbers will be explained. Practice word problems and games are included.
Prime factorization, multiples, LCM, GCF/GCD, and prime/composite numbers will be taught. Practice word problems and games are included.
Solving one-step and two-step equations and inequalities will be taught in class. Practice word problems and games are included.
What ratios are and how they relate to fractions will be explained. Proportionality and speed problems will be discussed. Lastly, percents will be taught. Practice word problems and games are included.
Simplifying square roots and converting to fractional exponents will be taught.Practice word problems and games are included.
Reading and using charts and graphs and using mean, median, and mode will be taught.Practice word problems and games are included.
Meauring angles in figures and the concept of angles will be explained. Practice word problems and games are included.
Finding perimeter and are of basic shapes will be taught. Students will understand the derivation of formulas and learn to apply them. Practice word problems and games are included.
